It captures everything associated with that moment. Later, when something similar happens, your mid-brain responds by sending signals to your body to prepare to run or fight. Your mid-brain can respond without you even being aware of it. As a result, your heart and breathing rate increase, senses become focused, and that panicky feeling in your chest returns.
 
Unfortunately, this part of the brain doesn’t use logic. It doesn’t understand you don’t need to look out for elevators or frogs. It sees a frog, and wham, you’re feeling anxious.
